  • Weekly Art & Poetry Club

Combine art and poetry by compiling your very own portfolio of paintings and poems. During this drop-in course we meet weekly to discuss a poem, its writer and any pertinent background information. The selection of poem is diverse and features classic and contemporary poetry in order to give learners a variety of writing styles and viewpoints. Learners read along with me as I share the poem, and will then be given the opportunity to share any thoughts or opinions on the poem. They may be called upon to share their ideas, either verbally or in the chat. Next, together we paint an image or scene; I will demonstrate my painting during class, but your learner may choose to paint something different! Our paintings will focus on being inspired by the poem, so it is possible that every student's painting will be unique. This class focuses on self-expression and building confidence, so I welcome learners of all abilities and skill levels. There is no step-by-step tutorial for learners to follow, but I will be sharing watercolor techniques and ideas. At the end of each class we share our paintings and celebrate how unique and different they are. If the painting is dry, learners can copy the poem onto the painting or on a separate page of their journal; otherwise they can do this offline. Our weekly schedule for 2026 is as follows. Poems are not in any particular order, except to provide variety: • Week of January 5: Still I Rise, by Maya Angelou • Week of January 12: Black Cat, by Rainer Maria Rilke • Week of January 19: Narwhals are Real, by Gloria Muñoz • Week of January 26: Fame is a bee - by Emily Dickinson • Week of February 2: Where the Sidewalk Ends, by Shel Silverstein • Week of February 9: Invictus, by William Ernest Henley • Week of February 16: Falling Leaves and Early Snow, by Kenneth Rexroth • Week of February 23: How Do I Love Thee? (Sonnet 43) and Sonnet 22, by Elizabeth Barrett Browning • Week of March 2: Spring is like a perhaps hand, by e.e. cummings • Week of March 9: Ode to my Socks, by Pablo Neruda • Week of March 16: Fable, Ralph Waldo Emerson • Week of March 23: The Stolen Child, by William Butler Yeats • Week of March 30: The Road Not Taken, by Robert Frost

  • JW Minecraft Weekly Club (Tuesdays)

Are you a homeschooler looking for core subjects that aren't just boring videos or textbooks? Let's make learning fun with Minecraft Education Edition! My name is Ms. Astrid and our school, Mossflower Academy, is a certified Minecraft Education organization. Using the Minecraft Education platform I will be using game-based learning. Each week your learner will have access to our private account, where they will participate in weekly build challenges, educational servers, coding tutorials, games and co-op play. Here is a list of our upcoming classes: SCHEDULE: During the months of August - October, students will be collaborating on a Bible Lands themed world server. Each week we will build a world together that features many important and significant locations in the Bible, including: - Biblically accurate Solomon's temple - Noah's ark to scale (hint: it is MASSIVE! All hands on deck for this one!) - Jerusalem and Bethlehem - Ancient Egypt in Moses' day - Mount Sinai - Babylon in Daniel's time - Jericho - Iconic scenes from the Bible (David and Goliath, the parting of the Red Sea, Paul's ministry locations and more) ‼️ NOTE: there is no class the week of October 21! I will be on vacation. 😎 Our plan is to build a world for our Jr. Minecraft kids to "test out", so if you have a learner who is too young for this class, consider booking the Jr. Minecraft class, where they will get to play in the "sandbox" version of this custom-build world and submit feedback for the older kids to improve on! Students can attend on a weekly subscription; classes are $10/week and include access to your own Minecraft Education account during class. You can also pay for a month at a time using our Pricing Plans option, which will also give you access to the Minecraft Education account between classes!

  • Jr. Minecraft Club

Students can be absolute beginners wanting to learn how to play and/or would like to improve in their Minecraft skills. We will use custom private servers to encourage learning while playing! ------------- $$$ Tip: Classes are $12/week if booked per session. Save $$ by purchasing in bulk by selecting the Monthly Budget Plan, which is $40 for 4 sessions of your choice (you choose the dates you attend)! And don't forget about our Mossflower Rewards program, where you earn points for each purchase and can exchange them for discounts. -------------- SCHEDULE: During the months of August - October, our older students will be collaborating on a Bible Lands themed world server. Our Jr. Minecraft players will be invited to play in the "sandbox" version of these custom-built worlds and submit their feedback to the creators for improvement! We will also have some free-play at the end of class. Minecraft Education Edition is free to download here: https://education.minecraft.net/en-us/get-started/download You are not required to sign up for the free trial or pay for a subscription. Your custom license to use during our classes is included with your enrollment in this course. Your learner will be given a custom login and password to use during our classes and even between classes, giving you access 24/7 for as long as you are enrolled. Note: We do not play in Survival mode, only in Creative. Mobs (like zombies and creepers) are disabled, as well as PvP (player vs. player), ensuring that students play nice and learn proper gaming etiquette. Our rule in class is: if you didn't make it, don't break it! For the Jr. course it works best to book these classes monthly, in 4-week increments.
